20/20 Hindsight: What I Hope We Learned From the Lakeland Revival

Below are the opening lines from an article written by J. Lee Grady who is editor of Charisma. To read the full version of the article click on the link below.

Looking back at what happened in Lakeland, I wonder if we can agree on what went wrong.

It has been four months since Canadian evangelist Todd Bentley fled the scene of Florida’s Lakeland Revival amid rumors of a moral failure. When Bentley vanished in August, the crowds thinned, God TV stopped broadcasting services, the meetings eventually shut down and Bentley’s worship leader took the popular music of the revival on the road.

"Ministers of the gospel need both godly character and powerful anointing. Why did we ever settle for the idea that we should have one without the other." Ouch!

As an outsider looking in, I have followed this Lakeland phenom for a while. Since it's inception I struggled with what was happening and it's lack of biblical foundation and experienced based spirituality.
What I found most disturbing were the amount of people, charismatic and pentecostal people that flocked to see the 'revival'.
Lee Grady has much good to say in a loving and corrective way.
We must never forget the message must always be centered around Jesus Christ. Experience and the prophetic and the apostolic the 'new revelation' must always be tested by the Word of God.
This is why it is imperative for my ministry and those God has called me to care for that I preach, teach Holy Scripture.
Just a couple of thoughts!
It is my heart and desire that the Lord restore Todd Bentley, first in his personal relationship with the Living God, then his relationship with his wife and family, and then the Body of Christ.
